We’re a rock band from Torrance, CA that blends punk energy with lyrical depth to create a sound that hits hard and resonates across generations.
Joker’s Hand started in 2017, when the two of us—Kevin Kawano (lead vocals, guitar) and Matt Lau (lead guitar, vocals)—were just roommates at UC Santa Cruz who bonded over a love of music, skateboarding, and video games.
Our music lives in the alt-rock world, shaped by everything from punk and metal to hip-hop. But at the end of the day, we’re storytellers. We write about our own battles with depression and anxiety, the world we’re trying to make sense of, and the push-and-pull between hope and rage.
